Guess what? It's time for this week's book pick! A house is on fire. Izzy Richardson is missing. From the New York Bestselling Author, Celeste Ng, Little Fires Everywhere addresses global issues in the setting of 1980’s small-town America. Celeste Ng writes eloquently on racism and culture, classism, poverty, abortion and adoption, all which are extremely relevant in 2020, now more than ever. Little Fires Everywhere is ideal for the mature reader looking to educate themselves on society and the world around them. Little Fires Everywhere is one of my favourite books of all time, I always recommend it to anyone wanting a good book to get their nose stuck into. The novel opens with chaos and a house fire - the house fire of Shaker Heights’ most well known family, the Richardsons. Izzy Richardson, the youngest of four, is nowhere to be found, unsurprisingly, and is immediately thought to have been the cause of the fire. Before the fire, the local gossip was the controversial adoption of a little Chinese girl, May Ling (or Mirabelle, her adopted name). To make matters just a little more interesting, Mr Richardson is the lawyer of the tricky adoption case. This isn’t even to mention the Richardson’s latest tenants in the apartment which they rent out. Mia Warren (a struggling yet talented artist) and her daughter, Pearl. As this highly exciting storyline develops, connections between characters are formed and shattered apart, truths and lies are told. This is a must read for everyone, especially in these changing times. You can find Little Fires Everywhere at your favourite local bookstore or watch the new TV series on Hulu now
